Getting "Ready" for an Emergency: Emergency Preparedness Series--Part 3
Apel, Laura
Exceptional Parent, v39 n5 p58-59 May 2009
This article presents part 3 of a series of articles giving timely information about potential emergency situations and offering suggestions and new technology that exceptional families can use to prepare for emergencies--everything from localized to large scale emergencies, everything from natural disasters to terrorist attacks. In 2003 the Department of Homeland Security, in partnership with the Ad Council, launched the "Ready" Campaign in response to the events of September 11th. "Ready" is a national public service advertising campaign designed to educate and empower Americans to prepare for and respond to emergencies, including natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks. In order to learn more about the Campaign and how it is helping individuals with special needs and disabilities prepare for emergencies, the author interviews Rebecca Marquis, the acting Director of "Ready." In the interview, Marquis shares more information about this valuable resource.
