Freshmen Interest Groups: Integrating FCS across University Courses
Roofe, Nina L.
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v101 n1 p57-59 2009
Leadership development, diversity, and collaboration are hallmarks of collaborative learning. The creation of learning communities requires everyone involved--students, faculty, and administration--to change how they think about teaching and learning. Everyone must value and work in an interdisciplinary manner and communicate effectively for these communities to be successful. Collaboration and teamwork paired with hard work and persistence lead to an extraordinary and unique learning opportunity for students and faculty. This article showcases a unique program for integrating courses from different university departments to enhance learning. FCS instructors and students are participating in the learning communities.
