A study was conducted in summer 1990 to measure the educational goal attainment of students who were enrolled at Johnson County Community College (JCCC) during 1986-87, and who had not re-enrolled at the college since that time. Questionnaires requesting information on JCCC experiences and outcomes, level of satisfaction with JCCC, current educational status and plans, and employment status were mailed to 745 long-term leavers. Study findings, based on an 11.3% response rate, included the following: (1) 57.9% of the respondents had attended JCCC four semesters or less and completed an average of 24 credit hours; (2) 77.1% had achieved their ultimate educational objective at JCCC; (3) 38.6% had not re-enrolled at JCCC because of work schedule conflicts, while 36.1% had not re-enrolled because all desired coursework had been completed; (4) 79.5% felt that JCCC had improved the quality of their life, with 92.8% saying they would attend JCCC again if starting all over; (5) 69.5% felt that attending JCCC should have helped them improve their oral communication skills, but only 50.8% indicated that JCCC attendance had helped in this area; (6) 32.5% of the respondents had attained a bachelor's degree or higher; (8) 36.1% planned to enroll in college again, with 86.7% of this group planning to re-enroll at JCCC; and (9) 51.8% indicated their current educational objective was to either study topics of interest/self-improvement or to improve skills for their present job.
