These hearings before the Senate Select Committee on Equal Educational Opportunity are organized in three parts, the contents of which are as follows: Part 1A and Part 2 comprise the "Introduction," with opening statements by a number of Senators, followed by the presentations of other witnesses. The focus of these two parts is on such topics as child behavior, teacher training, racial identity, busing, racial isolation, Project Concern, and integration effects. Part 1B, an "Appendix," contains miscellaneous articles, publications, and tables relating to teacher development, Project Concern in Cheshire, Connecticut, urban-suburban school mixing, and individual project descriptions. Part 3 encompasses "Desegregation under law." Statements recorded in Part 3A revolve around community control, class attitudes, black teacher training, and desegregation enforcement. Appended to this part are several National Education Association and other studies on desegregation of schools. Part 3B includes statements on "tokenism," Emergency School Assistance Funds, and racial balance. Part 3C incorporates evidence on compliance, HEW-Justice Department coordination, and Title IV fund cut-off effects. Part 3D carries the concluding sets of statements bearing on Southern segregated public schools.
