An Investigation of the Factors that Can Predict Philanthropic Support for Former Female Student-Athletes
Drummond, Jason S.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, University of Kansas
The purpose of this study was to determine factors that best describe the philanthropic motivations of female student-athletes when considering making financial contributions to their alma mater. A survey instrument was developed and administered to 2,351 alumnae student-athletes which had 347 respondents. The independent variables chosen were broken into four subscales: Attitude towards the university and athletics; attitude toward the athletic program; willingness to give; and, perceived gender equity. Bivariate correlations were computed using Pearson's correlation coefficient. Multivariate regression analyses were conducted establishing predictors of contributions and amount. Logistic regression was used when examining contributions and linear regression was used when looking at how much they donated. The findings suggests age, attitudes toward the program and willingness to give are the factors that predicts giving. In predicting amount given, current personal financial situation was a factor. There were no differences explaining contributions comparing team and individual sports participants. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
