Revealing Additional Dimensions of Globalisation and Cultural Hegemony: A Response to Roland S. Persson's Call for Cultural Sensitivity in Gifted Studies
Ambrose, Don
Gifted and Talented International, v27 n1 p99-110 Aug 2012
In this commentary, the author finds the interdisciplinary approach of Roland S. Persson's (2012a) target article refreshing. Persson's (2012a) additional emphases on ethnocentricity, cultural bias and strong threads of influence from the global economy also are helpful. They shed light on some strong contextual influences that shape the development of the gifted and talented. Much of the author's response to Persson's (2012a) informative article takes the form of some additional analyses that augment his. The author employs some analyses of the theoretical dogmatism that undergirds the global economy, which Persson (2012a) justifiably indicts in various ways through his analysis. The author also brings into play some philosophical constructs to analyse cultural influences on investigative enterprises in gifted studies. His thoughts and additional suggestions are necessary for the refinement and augmentation of Persson's (2012a) target article. (Contains 1 table.)
