The Quality of Higher Humanities Education: A Roundtable

This article presents excerpts from a debate on the report by Professor A.S. Zapesotskii, the rector of the St. Petersburg Trade Unions University of the Humanities, titled "Ensuring the Quality of Higher Humanities Education." Participants in the debate were as follows: (1)Antonina Pavlovna Beliaeva, a doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor, and academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and director of the Institute of Vocational Technical Education, Russian Academy of Education; (2) Gennadii Alekseevich Bordovskii, a doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor, and academician of the Russian Academy of Education, and chairman of the Northwestern Department of the Russian Academy of Education and rector of the A.I. Gertsen Russian State Pedagogical University; (3) Vladimir Panteleimonovich Boriskenkov, a doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor, and academician of the Russian Academy of Education, and vice president of the Russian Academy of Education; (4) Aleksandr Sergeevich Gorshkov, a doctor of pedagogical sciences, distinguished worker in higher education of the Russian Federation, and rector of the Northwestern Academy of State Service; (5) Iurii Stepanovich Davydov, a doctor of economic sciences, professor, and academician of the Russian Academy of Education, and rector of the Piatigorsk State University of Linguistics; (6) Aleksandr Sergeevich Zapesotskii, a doctor of culturological sciences, professor, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Education, and distinguished leader in science of the Russian Federation, and rector of the St. Petersburg Trade Unions University of the Humanities; (7) Lev Nikolaevich Karlin, a doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor, and rector of the St. Petersburg Institute of Hydrometerorology; (8) Nikolai Nikolaevich Malofeev, a doctor of pedagogical sciences and corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Education, and director of the Institute of Remedial Pedagogy of the Russian Academy of Education; (9)Nikolai Dmitrievich Nikandrov, a doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor, and academician of the Russian Academy of Education, and president of the Russian Academy of Education; and (10) Vladimir Andreevich Popkov, a doctor of pharmaceutical sciences, professor, and academician of the Russian Academy of Education, and head of the department of general chemistry at Moscow I.M. Sechenov Academy of Medicine. In this roundtable discussion, Zapesotskii answers questions from the participants regarding the quality of higher humanities education in Russia.
