A survey was conducted of participants in the 1984/85 Florida Master Teacher Program to determine variables on which award recipients and non-recipients differed, apart from the superior scores obtained on the content area tests and/or the performance evaluation. A descriptive profile of the Associate Master Teacher was developed from the results of the survey. A total of 1,903 Associate Master Teachers responded to the survey questionnaire. A description of the respondent sample is given in this report, followed by an analysis of program participants' responses in the following broad areas: (1) demographic characteristics; (2) academic background; (3) teaching experience; (4) professional growth and development activities; (5) degree and nature of involvement and leadership roles in professional organizations; (6) previous professional awards or recognition received; and (7) certification fields. A number of significant features contributing to a profile of the Florida Associate Master Teacher are presented. Data from the survey are presented in tables. (JD)
