An athletic training curriculum for the training of high school coaches and physical education teachers in Virginia includes courses on: (1) athletic injuries--a basic study of human physiology and anatomy relevant to different athletic injuries; (2) the art and science of sports medicine--prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries; (3) emergency medical treatment; (4) practicum in athletic training--a clinical and practical experience, enabling students to work with athletes in the treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries; (5) advanced athletic training--diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating orthopedic injuries particular to athletes; and (6) sport psychology.
