From Amateur to Framauteur: Art Development of Adolescents and Young Adults within an Interest-Based Community
Manifold, Marjorie Cohee
Studies in Art Education: A Journal of Issues and Research in Art Education, v54 n1 p37-53 Fall 2012
In this article, the art developmental progression of adolescents and young adults within the cultural context of an interest-based community is described; the role of narrative and sociocultural community to the art development of adolescents and young adults is highlighted. Artistic development begins in response to an aesthetic phenomenon, is affirmed through repetition, confirmed through accord with social norms, and compelled by desires to be recognized as special among others. Thus, sense of self-efficacy as an artist, together with development of conceptual and technical artistic skills, evolve in a symbiotic way as feedback shifts alternatively from external to internal motivational factors.
