Technoscientific French Teaching Guide = Guide pour l'enseignement du Francais technoscientifique.
Muller, Brigitte D.
This course guide aids university professors in doing research to develop a course in scientific and technical French. The course is intended to aid students in developing communicative skills in French in the context of science and technology. The course introduces students to the culture of France as well as to its industrial and technological interests in both the private and public sectors. The guide contains an introductory section, course goals and objectives, the outline for a program of study in two courses, lists of available subject area documentation, a list of onsite visits made in preparation for the guide's writing, and general and pedagogical bibliographies. The suggested course syllabus includes six modules covering these industries: transportation (railroad, subway, aircraft, and aerospace); automobiles; food (including distribution, buying habits, nutrition, and genetic engineering); glass (manufacturing, thermal insulation, optics, and light); computers and related fields of telecommunications and data processing; computer science applications in business administration; energy (coal, electricity, petroleum, and energy conservation); and chemicals for all applications. The course prepares students for the French Chamber of Commerce scientific and technical language certification examinations. The French language translation of the guide is provided. This course can be adapted to teach technoscientific language and culture to students of languages other than French. (MSE)
