E-Commerce Topics for Business Education: Perceptions of Employers and Educators
Gueldenzoph, Lisa E.
Delta Pi Epsilon Journal, v48 n1 p19-27 Win 2006
E-commerce is a relatively new content area for business educators even though it includes a variety of business concepts such as marketing and desktop publishing. Whether developing a new course or integrating e-commerce concepts into existing courses, determining the topics that are important can be a challenge. This study sought to identify the topics that are most relevant for a university-level e-commerce course offered by a business education program. Surveys were sent to 200 business employers and 100 business educators to determine their perceptions of appropriate e-commerce topics. Findings indicated the most important topics included ethical and legal issues, advertising, privacy, and Internet security. The least important topics included programming skills such as S/MIME, SML, SGML, VBScript, ColdFusion, and XML. (Contains 2 tables.)
