This course of study provides a framework for the content of a program in business education as part of the Alabama vocational education program. The course of study was designed to assist educators in developing and maintaining high quality vocational programs and to ensure uniformity of vocational programs. Following a description of the framework for business education, the guide lists topics and required student outcomes for core courses in the business program: accounting, keyboarding, business computer applications, business law, business mathematics/recordkeeping, keyboarding applications, office procedures, and rapidwriting. It also describes topics and student outcomes for optional courses in business principles and a continuation of rapidwriting. Minimum required content is outlined for the following modules: accounting, automated office systems, business communications, business economics, business law, business mathematics, business organization/business management, dictation/transcription, employment preparation and retention, entrepreneurship, keyboarding applications, leadership, mail handling and shipping, office procedures, recordkeeping, records management, and telecommunications.
