In spring 1977, the faculty and students of Wytheville Community College were surveyed in regard to their attitudes toward and use of the Learning Resource Center (LRC). The student survey revealed that of 330 respondents, 46% used the library one hour or more per week; 63% of 129 respondents suggested a greater emphasis during orientation on locating materials and information; 66% of 330 respondents expressed interest in individualized instruction, especially in math related areas; 51% desired additional help with their subjects and 81% indicated they would take advantage of such help if it were offered at the LRC; 75% did not use the library on weekends, and of those that did most used it for research; over 80% felt the book and periodical collection to be adequate; there was an expressed desire for typewriters, calculators, quiet reading rooms, and radio and television stations. The faculty survey revealed that the faculty expected their students to use the library more than they did or thought they were expected to; 41% made use of the audiovisual services; 40% obtained films through the LRC; 87.7% requested the purchase of books; 76% had not used the TV studio facility; 40% indicated having used the library on weekends once or twice, their preferred day being Sunday; 60% used the reserve book system, 76% read magazines and newspapers in the LRC.
