OSU Extension, Ohio Aging Network Join Forces: Creating Resources for Successful Aging
Goard, Linnette Mizer
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v102 n2 p54-55 2010
Ohio State University Extension and Ohio's Aging Network professionals have worked together for more than a decade to address issues of importance to Ohio's older adult population. The team's mission is to provide education, training, and resources to empower older Ohioans to achieve an optimal level of well-being. The Senior Series team initially formed to address needs and concerns of the growing number of Ohio residents over age 65, which is currently 13% of the state's population and predicted to increase to 20% by 2030 (Ohio's population, 2009). The Senior Series team consists of 12 members, 6 Extension, and 6 Aging Network professionals. Extension representatives are chosen on the basis of their specialization (e.g., nutritional concerns of aging, housing needs of older adults) and interest in working with the older population. In response to the needs of Ohio's growing older adult population, the team has developed curriculum, newsletters, and fact sheets. A website serves to disseminate the information.
