How to Arrange Student Tours to the Soviet Union.
Winokur, Marshall
The details of planning a student tour to the Soviet Union are described by an experienced tour organizer. Student tours of one to three weeks are presented as rewarding alternatives to lengthy overseas study. Recommendations are made regarding choice of tour type, length of tour, travel agencies, time of year to travel, advertising a tour, orienting students, size and composition of tour group, itineraries and guide books, and dealing with problems inside the Soviet Union. The hard work and long hours involved in organizing a tour are emphasized, but the rewards are seen to include the opportunity to introduce students to the use of Russian outside the classroom and the opportunity for the teacher to improve his own skills.
