Charting the Effects of Improving Instruction: College Seniors Learning to Write Lesson Plans
Pass, Susan
Performance Improvement, v45 n4 p30-37 Apr 2006
The purpose of this article is to chart improvement in student achievement by use of a new teaching strategy. An additional goal is to discover if an increase in student achievement might also increase students' interest, motivation, and sense of value in learning the subject (in this case, secondary social studies education). A third goal is to chart whether an increase in achievement leads also to an increase in students' ratings of professor and course effectiveness. College seniors enrolled in a secondary social studies education program were having trouble learning how to write adequate lesson plans. This article presents a brief review of the literature, the problem, the solution to the problem, and the results. Because the academic goal was to teach college seniors how to write correct social studies lesson plans, a template and rubric were developed for reader use. (Contains 3 tables and 3 figures.)
