Self-Management and Self-Direction in the Success of Native Literacy Learners.
Jones, Christianna
Canadian Journal of Native Education, v27 n1 p45-54 2003
An adult literacy program at M'Chigeeng First Nation (Manitoulin Island, Ontario) helps learners become aware of themselves, their skills, family dynamics, and community involvement. The holistic approach uses the Seven Grandfathers' teachings of the Ojibway to develop mind, body, spirit, and emotions. The program is defining self-management and self-direction, developing related activities for an online literacy project, and linking self-management skills to learner success. (TD)
