Nativity and Self-Assessed Health among Pre-Retirement Age Hispanics and Non-Hispanic Whites.
Angel, Jacqueline L.; Buckley, Cynthia J.; Finch, Brian Karl
International Migration Review, v35 n3 p784-803 Fall 2001
Examined the salience of nativity in determining how economic, social, and familial resources influenced Hispanic and non-Hispanic white adults' self-assessed health. Survey data indicated that while education, accumulated assets, and marital status benefitted physical and emotional health among immigrants and nonimmigrants, family resources and income were significant only for nonimmigrants (native-born). English proficiency was significantly protective for both groups. (SM)
