Results for the Spring 1989 Delaware Educational Assessment Program are presented. The assessment involved the administration of a newly normed test--the Stanford Achievement Test, Eighth Edition--to approximately 65,000 public school students in grades 1 through 8 and 11 during the period extending from April 5 through 18, 1989. Among other things, the program provides annual student performance data at the state, district, school, and student levels in the basic skill areas. In 1989, additional information was provided on listening and higher order thinking skills. The program includes all regular and special education students, with the exception of students in special schools or intensive learning centers. The performance of Delaware students as a whole compared well with the new national norms. Results are presented for the following 17 school districts as average scores for regular and special education students combined: Appoquinimink, Brandywine, Caesar Rodney, Cape Henlopen, Capital, Christina, Colonial, Delmar, Indian River, Lake Forest, Laurel, Milford, New Castle County Vocational-Technical, Red Clay Consolidated, Seaford, Smyrna, and Woodbridge. Skills assessed include listening, reading, mathematics, language/English skills, spelling, study skills, physical science, social science, and higher order thinking skills. The percentages of correct responses by items for 6 content areas are tabulated, and the parent report is included. (TJH)
