Preparing Spiritual Leaders: One Teacher Takes on the Challenge
Rogers, Judy L.
About Campus, v8 n5 p19-26 Nov-Dec 2003
In this article, the author shares the anxiety she first felt when she learned that she will be teaching a course on the spiritual dimensions of leadership. She was afraid of the fact that she would be going to give up a lot of control when she starts this course. Unlike teaching organization theory, where the boundaries seem clear and tidy, opening the dialogue on spirituality could lead anyplace. She was concerned of two things: (1) the idea of letting go of control would left her vulnerable as a teacher; and (2) she did not want the course to evolve into a therapy group. However, during the course of her teaching about spirituality, she found out that her initial concerns did not materialize. In fact, she realized how teaching spirituality has taken her to a deeper level in understanding what it means to practice that kind of pedagogy. (Contains 10 notes.)
