An Evaluative Study of the Hawai'i English Program.
NOMOS Inst., Berkeley, CA.
The final report of a year-long study of the Hawaii English Program (HEP), a comprehensive language arts curriculum for the elementary grades, comparing the performance level in English of pupils in fifth-grade HEP and non-HEP classes and investigating the attitudes of pupils, teachers, and parents is presented in this volume. Sections in the report discuss the background of the HEP program and methods used in the research and present results (including 156 tables of statistics). The summary indicates that, in general, the pupils in the HEP classes perform at a higher level in the English language than do comparable pupils in non-HEP classes. (MKM)
