The Volunteer Health Advisor Program of Cambridge Health Alliance: "A Bridge Between the Community and the Health Care System" Cambridge, Massachusetts
Perspectives in Peer Programs, v19 n4 p148-151 Win-Spr 2005
Cambridge Health Alliance's Volunteer Health Advisor (VHA) Program was developed to create an effective and cost efficient outreach network to improve community health status. The program's mission is to improve community health by working collaboratively with faith-based and community-based organizations to recruit, train, and support a sustainable volunteer workforce that provides culturally and linguistically appropriate outreach and health education to under-served and hard-to-reach populations. This model of health outreach is easily replicable for a variety of linguistic groups and appropriate for other geographic locations. Description, training, implementation, and outcomes of VHA Program are presented.
