Revealing the Mind of the Sage: The Narrative Rhetoric of the "Chuang Tzu."
Kirkwood, William G.
Rhetoric Society Quarterly, v25 p134-48 1995
Examines the rhetoric used in "Chuang Tzu" to disclose the sage's theory of rhetoric. Shows that revealing the mind of the sage is the main task of "Chuang Tzu." Discusses why neither direct description nor firsthand encounters with sages are well suited to disclosing the sage's mind. Examines how "Chuang Tzu" uses invented narratives to achieve its goal.
