Phonological Convergence in Dialect Contact: Evidence from Citation Forms.
Kerswill, Paul
Language Variation and Change, v7 n2 p195-207 1995

Data suggest that, in a contact situation, surface differences will be eradicated at the expense of phonologically complex differences. (29 references) (Author/CK)
