The Relationship between Family Environment and Parenting Style: A Preliminary Study of African American Families.
Hill, Nancy E.
Journal of Black Psychology, v21 n4 p408-23 Nov 1995
The influence of parenting style on aspects of family environment was studied with 174 9th graders, 11th graders and college freshmen (96% African American). Findings demonstrate that types of parenting styles are significantly related to outcome measures of family environment as predicted. Implications of authoritative parenting among blacks are discussed. (SLD)
