An effective staff development method for child caregivers is a workshop series combining research-based knowledge, interactive resources, and experiential learning. New York's experience demonstrates the importance of training the trainer; paying attention to adult education principles; and forming coalitions with local child-care councils, resource groups, and social service agencies.
