The Library in Your Toolbar: You Can Make It Easy to Search Library Resources from Your Own Browser
Webster, Peter
Library Journal, v132 n12 p30-32 Jul 2007
For years, patrons have been able to access library services from home and in the library building, but in the world of Google, Yahoo, YouTube, MySpace, and Facebook, library web sites and catalogs are too often not the first place people go to look for information. The innovative use of toolbars could change this. Toolbars have been popular for several years, but it is now easier than ever to offer customized search services and tie new library resources like federated search and "ask a librarian" services directly to users. This article takes a look at how library toolbars work and addresses some of the concerns with using this technology. (Contains 17 online resources.)
