Recruiting Strategies for CTE
Nikirk, Martin
Tech Directions, v66 n9 p19-21 Apr 2007
With so many career choices in the home schools, recruiting for competitive, academically rigorous career technology education programs offered at a county technical high school can prove quite a challenge. Washington County, Maryland, has eight high schools, one of which is a technical high school. Many of the county's students select career choices and academic pathways in the late 8th or 9th grade that transition them to their community high school. Unfortunately, many of these students and their parents are unaware of the high caliber technical programs offered at the Washington County Technical High School (WCTHS). Because students and parents lack awareness, educators at technical high schools must often initiate a proactive recruiting program. This article describes recruitment strategies that WCTHS has found very effective.
