When "Helping Someone Else" Is the Right Answer: Bridging Cultures in Assessment.
Rothstein-Fisch, Carrie; Trumbull, Elise; Isaac, Adrienne; Daley, Catherine; Perez, Amada Irma
Journal of Latinos and Education, v2 n3 p123-40 2003
A longitudinal action-research project began with professional development to help elementary teachers understand differences between the collectivist values of most Latin Americans and the individualistic values of the dominant U.S. culture. Teachers could then capitalize on the collectivist values of helping others to support Latino student success on standardized tests. Teacher beliefs concerning helping versus cheating were explored in light of cultural values. (Contains 33 references.) (TD)
