Theory of Mind: Deaf and Hearing Children's Comprehension of Picture Stories and Judgments of Social Situations.
Rhys-Jones, Sara L.; Ellis, Haydn D.
Journal of Deaf Studies and Deaf Education, v5 n3 p248-65 Sum 2000
This study compared 20 prelingually profoundly deaf adolescents (age 11-16 years) and 20 matched, hearing adolescents on a picture-sequencing task and a social judgment test. Results did not support the hypothesis that deaf adolescents possess significantly poorer knowledge about social reasoning than hearing peers but it did support the conversational hypothesis supporting the value of conversations about mental states.
