Sing Me a Story! Tell Me a Song! Creative Curriculum Activities for Teachers of Young Children.
Jackman, Hilda L.
This collection of developmentally appropriate early childhood education curriculum activities uses themes to integrate the curriculum for young children. The activities involve active exploration, problem-solving, and the acquisition of specific concepts or skills. The collection is divided into six broad sections, with individual themes comprising each section. The sections are: (1) "All About Me," including themes related to self, friends, family, and community; (2) "The Senses"; (3) "Seasons"; (4) "Environment," including themes related to colors, shapes, oceans and lakes, and forests; (5) "Animals and More," including themes related to the zoo, farm, pets, insects, fish, birds, circus, and dinosaurs; and (6) "Transportation." Each theme is designed to merge play with child-initiated and teacher-created experiences. The descriptions of each of the 30 themes include the following: (1) thematic web diagram; (2) theme goals; (3) suggested vocabulary words; (4) child-created bulletin board; (5) thematic activities; (6) bibliography of selected children's books; and (7) parent letters related to the theme. Also included with the collection is a CD-ROM containing instructional and additional resource materials. An appendix contains full-page enlargements of sheet music presented in various themes. (KB)
