Family Problem Solving: Conflict Mediation Training for Parents.
Conflict Resolution Unlimited, Inc., Bellevue, WA.
This manual provides information that can help parents resolve conflict and provides information required to conduct Family Problem Solving Training sessions. The guide, which introduces conflict mediation skills to parents, is divided into four 1.5 hour sessions. The sessions are (1) "Introduction to Conflict Mediation, How to Use Communication Skills"; (2) "Review of the Process, Seeing Things from Different Points of View, and Conflict Mediation Techniques"; (3) "More Conflict Mediation Techniques and Dealing with Difficult Situations"; and (4) "Being Your Own Mediator, Using Med-Arb, and Running Family Meetings." Also included are several sessions of role play so that parents can practice their new acquired skills with their children, whom they are encouraged to bring to training. However, it is advised that child care be provided for very young children while their parents participate in the classes. Providing food is also recommended, as well as scheduling sessions at convenient times for parents. A handbook for Parents (both in English and Spanish) is included. (MKA)
