Investigating Morals and Values in Today's Society.
Garnett, Paul D.
This responsibility education activity book for grades 5-10 offers a set of materials that reflect students' interests and motivation for values education. The book is built around three moral principles: (1) "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" (Confucius, 513 B.C.); (2) "The end does not justify the means" (Immanuel Kant, "The Critique of Judgement, Part 2"); and (3) "You reap what you sow" (The Talmud (Proverbs) Judeo-Christian Tradition). These moral principles have corollaries and counterparts in nature and interpersonal behaviors. The activities in the book explore these moral questions and work towards values clarification. The book is divided into three sections: (1) "Building the Self-Image"; (2) "The Dynamics of Working in a Group"; and (3) "Leadership." Readings and activities support each topic. Contains 21 references. (EH)
