Statistics on education in New York State for 1991-92 and trends from earlier years are reported in this series of tables. Emphasis is placed on summary tables and figures, but details for separate school districts are provided. Information is reported for elementary, secondary, higher, and professional education, as well as libraries and special programs. The statistical highlights indicate that the enrollment in 1991-92 was 3,082,996 students in the 718 elementary and secondary districts of the state, up somewhat from the 3,021,644 students of 1989-90. Expenditures had grown from $19,333,012,175 in 1989-90 to $21,405,741,057 in 1991-92. Over the same period, the number of colleges and universities in the state declined very slightly, although enrollment rose somewhat. A total of 199,570 degrees were conferred by the state's institutions of higher education in 1991-92. The 741 libraries in New York employed 3,801 professional staff members and 7,635 nonprofessionals. Appendix A contains the school district detail tables, and Appendix B gives definitions of expenditure and revenue categories. Appendix C lists full names of the Boards of Cooperative Education Services, which are abbreviated in some tables. There are 69 tables of data. (SLD)
