Turtle Time Designs: Working with Patterns in LogoWriter.
Jordan, Tricia S.
This book helps individuals use Turtle Time Designs programs (i.e., a series of graphics program files to be used with LogoWriter) even if they have little previous experience with LogoWriter. The features of each program are carefully explained and are followed by step-by-step suggestions for teaching the lesson. Examples of the types of designs that can be made with each program are included throughout the book. A series of worksheets at the end of the book explain the commands used in the programs and give examples of how the designs were created. Learners of all ages, from preschool through adult, can use the programs, each at his/her own level of skill. This book explains how to use FreeDraw, Patterns, SpinPat, GrowPat, and SuperPat. The book begins with FreeDraw, a simple drawing program. With experience, students progress from making simple shapes to elaborate pictures. Free Draw lets students become comfortable with the way the turtle works and helps them gain control over its movements. In Patterns, students create a small "squiggle." SpinPat and GrowPat transform the pattern by rotating it around a central axis or increasing the length of each side. SuperPat allows combinations of transformations on each pattern. (TMK)
