This resource guide is designed to bring together information and resources on career preparation for students with disabilities in Florida's schools. The intended audience includes special and vocational teachers and administrators who have an interest in improving outcomes for students with disabilities within their districts. Chapter 1 introduces the reader to the School Improvement and Accountability initiative, the Secretary of Labor's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS) report, and Florida's Blueprint for Career Preparation. It describes the relationship of these overarching concepts to one another. Chapter 2 provides an overview of vocational assessment and programming at both the secondary and postsecondary levels for students with a wide range of disabilities. Chapter 3 defines and describes the process of planning for students in transition from school to community living. Chapter 4 provides the reader with a way to access labor market information. Following each chapter is a description of promising practices related to the information contained in that chapter. Many of these are descriptions of actual vocational programs in school districts. The resource section in the back of the document is a guide to human and material resources available from state agencies. (YLB)
