Training Courses for Further Education College Lecturers. Report to the Review Committee on the Training of Further Education College Lecturers in Scotland. Research Report Series.
Hall, John; Mingard, Sue
This report presents an overview of training courses for further education lecturers in the United Kingdom and offers observations on developments in the field of further education lecturer training. Recommendations of previous reports concerning the training of further education lecturers are analyzed, and the current situation is examined. Standards set by the Training and Development Lead Body, which are intended to ensure that trainers, assessors, and internal verifiers achieve a level of competence that will underpin the implementation of National Vocational Qualifications, are discussed. The report then provides a comparison of the four full-time Certificate in Education courses available, at the Bolton Institute of Higher Education, Polytechnic/University of Huddersfield, Thames Polytechnic/University of Greenwich, and Polytechnic/University of Wolverhampton. Part-time programs available at Crewe and Alsager College of Higher Education, Croydon College, Centers validated by the CNAA, and the Scottish School of Further Education are described. An outline of the requirements of the City and Guilds Further and Adult Education Teacher's Certificate is provided. (JDD)
