Program of Studies, Ukrainian Language Arts (Early Childhood Services-Grade 12).
Alberta Dept. of Education, Edmonton.
The Ukrainian language arts program for Alberta's (Canada) elementary and secondary schools is a two-way bilingual curriculum, serving both native speakers and non-native learners of Ukrainian. An introductory section to the curriculum gives an overview of the province's philosophy and policy concerning language instruction and general principles guiding the curriculum's design. The second section outlines briefly the general learning expectations for students in the program, and the third section lists more specific learner expectations for required and elective components and, in greater detail, for the Ukrainian language arts component. The expectations address student language skills and attitudes and cultural appreciation at grades 3, 6, 9, and 12. The publication schedule for program-related learning resources is also provided. In addition, the entire document is presented in Ukrainian. An accompanying teaching manual is in both English and Ukrainian; an accompanying teacher resource manual is entirely in Ukrainian (except for Introduction). (MSE)
