Developing Positive Attitudes about Disabilities.
Lander, Carole R.
This unit of study aims to help students understand that persons with disabilities are more alike than different from persons without disabilities, to help students appreciate that all people regardless of differences are valuable and worthwhile, to offer students hands-on activities to help them become sensitive to the differences in the lives of persons with disabilities, and to discuss aspects of the daily lives of persons with disabilities. The unit is divided into an introductory section and sections about people with mobility problems, visual impairments, hearing impairments, mental retardation and slow learning, and learning disabilities. Each section contains worksheets for students, resource lists of books and films, and sample teaching activities. (JDD)
