This volume, part of the second annual report on the educational status of schools in the state required by the New York State Legislature, presents a statistical portrait of the elementary and secondary education system for the 1988-89 academic year. In this volume, information about the public schools is given for the state as a whole, and disaggregated by seven community types. The information for the reports was primarily derived from data submitted to the New York State Department of Education. Statistics are given for the following parameters: (1) population characteristics; (2) enrollment trends; (3) participation rates; (4) student performance; (5) attendance and high school completion; (6) public school teachers and administrators; (7) public school finance; and (8) postsecondary education and employment. Data are presented in 157 tables and 10 figures. (SLD)
