This publication is a status report on faculty contracts and bargaining agents in higher education in the United States for 1991. An introduction summarizes activity across the nation including agents elected, independent agents, decertification, strikes, legislation, first contracts signed, and demographic analysis. A table of faculty contracts and bargaining agents follows. Next is a table of adjunct faculty contracts and bargaining agents followed by a listing of graduate and teaching assistant contracts and bargaining agents, a table of faculty collective bargaining at Canadian universities and a summary of elections held at U.S. institutions. The second half of the document contains statistical analysis in 16 tables including: (1) bargaining agents public and private; (2) agents in two- and four-year colleges; (3) collective bargaining agreements; (4) analysis of bargaining agents and agreements; (5) agents and agreements in public and private institutions from 1974 to 1991; (6) agents and agreements in two- and four-year institutions 1974-1991; (7) faculty represented by certified agents in two- and four-year institutions; (8) faculty represented by certified agents; (9) campuses represented by faculty agents, (10) geographic distribution of agents. Also included is a list of "no-agent" votes and an index of United States and Canadian institutions cited in the directory. (JB)
