This resource manual contains conceptual and practical information about Iowa's Individualized Education Program (IEP) process and document. The resource manual's aim is greater consistency and higher quality in the implementation of the IEP process across Iowa. The manual is organized around the Iowa IEP prototype form, which consists of 10 pages that contain general information about the student, the parents/guardians, the type of IEP meeting, and meeting participants; student's present levels of educational performance; annual goal and objectives statements; extent of participation of the student in regular and special education; and information about special education support and related services, the justification of such services, and information pertaining to graduation, extended year special education, transition planning, and shortened school day. The manual is divided into five chapters, each corresponding to a major component of the IEP prototype form. Chapters cover authorizing legislation, present levels of educational performance, annual goals and short-term objectives, special educational support and related services, and transition planning. Each chapter begins with an overview and a list of key terms. At the end of each chapter, a completed example of the appropriate pages of the IEP is presented using a case study of a hypothetical fourth grader with a learning disability. Appendixes contain sample forms, check lists, transition planning information, a list of abbreviations, and a glossary. (32 references) (JDD)
