Strategic options for school restructuring are examined in this guidebook for Colorado educators and citizens networking in the Colorado Strategic Options Initiative. The authors are members of a group of state educators participating in the Strategic Options Network, a collaborative organization working to share research and results of their restructuring efforts. The preface, "Priorities for Success," was written by William T. Randall, State Commissioner of Education; the purpose and acknowledgements section was written by Jane Larsh; the foreword, "Assuring Equity in Education," was written by Jeanette Ray-Goins and Vicente Z. Serrano; and the introduction and background was written by James D. Hennes. Chapters include: "Change: The Need and the Strategic Options," by Ed Larsh; "Caring and Engagement," by Arnold Langberg; "Getting the Herd Headed West: Rationale and Process," by Ed Larsh; "Schooling Redesign: A Key to Educational Restructuring," by Jerry Villars; and "A Futures-Oriented Change Model," by Eugene R. Howard. Eight figures are included. Appendices contain probable restructuring directions, educational trends in the 21st century, the social context for restructuring, an integrated curriculum, and the assessment instrument for the Littleton Public Schools Classroom 2001 Project.
