Current restructuring of education calls for more teacher involvement in the planning and delivery of instruction. This yearbook gives examples of teacher involvement as it updates the supervision process. Four sections include 13 essays by various authors. The first section is entitled "The Context" and includes four essays: (1) "Policy and Supervision" (Linda Darling-Hammond with Eileen Sclan); (2) "Searching for a Common Purpose: A Perspective on the History of Supervision" (Frances S. Bolin and Philip Panaritis); (3) "Changing Perspectives in Curriculum and Instruction" (James Nolan and Pam Francis); and (4) "Teacher Empowerment and the Development of Voice" (Andrew Gitlin and Karen Price). The second section, entitled "The Practice," also includes four essays: (1)"Restructuring in a Large District: Dade County Florida" (Gerald O. Dreyfuss, Peter J. Cistone, and Charles Divita, Jr.); (2) "Peer Assistance in a Small District: Windham Southeast, Vermont" (Susan James, Daniel Heller, and William Ellis); (3) "School Renewal in Chaska, Minnesota, Independent District #112" (Jean A. King and Carol J. Ericson); and (4) "A View from the Central Office" (Edward F. Pajak). Section 3, entitled "The Preparation," includes three essays: (1) "Collegial Support by Teacher Mentors and Peer Consultants" (Nancy L. Zimpher and John E. Grossman); (2) "Restructuring Student Teaching Experiences" (Amy Bernstein Colton and Georgea Sparks-Langer); and (3) "Linking Preservice and Inservice Supervision Through Professional Inquiry" (Patricia E. Holland, Renee Clift, and Mary Lou Veal with Marlene Johnson and Jane McCarthy). The last section, entitled "The Reflection," contains two essays: (1) "The Transformation of Supervision" (Peter P. Grimmett, Olaf P. Rostad, and Blake Ford); and (2) "Moral Authority and the Regeneration of Supervision" (Thomas J. Sergiovanni). (327 references) (LAP)
