This selective report on the celebration across the country of the Year of the Young Reader (YYR) by the Library of Congress and its partners has a two-fold purpose: to provide a chronological review of the events, projects, and activities that made the campaign effective; and to stimulate thinking on how to give the next campaign, "1991--the Year of the Lifetime Reader," the broadest possible impact. The report highlights, by month, the YYR campaign's national events, state events, projects in the schools (by state), publicity campaigns (brochures, television spots, press), television projects, and posters and publications. Concluding the report is a list of national associations and advocacy groups and their activities in promoting literacy and reading during the campaign. (MAB)
