California Educational Technology Summit Proceedings (Sacramento, California, April 25-26, 1991).
The California Educational Technology Summit was convened to address both the existing and desired applications of technology in California education. The objectives of the summit were: to increase awareness of technology and its limits and potential; provide for a dialogue about important technology related issues across educational sectors; and produce specific recommendations for the development of a long-range plan for educational technology in California. Introductory materials include lists of the summit planning committee members, members of the California Planning Commission for Educational Technology, summit sponsors, an executive summary, and background information on the summit. Comments by panelists in three panel discussions--State of the State, State of Education, and State of the Art--are then summarized, and the 10 Technology Master Plan Topics assigned to the task groups for their review are presented. These topics are: (1) Governance and Legislative Authorization; (2) Critical Problems and the Role of Technology; (3) Access to Instructional/Learning Resources; (4) Dissemination of Information and Resources; (5) Electronic Networking; (6) Professional Development; (7) Student Learning and Technology Use; (8) Partners in Learning; (9) Administrative Uses of Technology; and (10) Evaluation and Accountability. This section, which makes up the greater part of the proceedings, includes both the initial information provided to the groups and their recommendations. A list of panel members with information on their professional backgrounds and a list of summit participants organized by task group conclude the report. A press release for the summit, a discussion of themes from the work group reports, and brief articles from EDCAL (Association of California School Administrators) and the FarWest Focus (Far West Laboratory for Educational Research and Development) are appended.
