Inservice Activities for Consumer & Homemaking Education & Occupational Home Economics Instructors. A Report of Inservice Activities Conducted for California Community College Home Economics & Related Professionals.
Mount San Antonio Community Coll. District, Walnut, CA.; McGillicuddy (Shirley) & Associates, Sierra Madre, CA.
In August 1990, a statewide inservice training project for two-year college home economics instructors was initiated by the Chancellor's Office of the California Community Colleges. The project's three main objectives were to: (1) identify inservice priority needs through a review of existing data from previous home economics projects; (2) plan, develop, promote, implement, and evaluate a variety of inservice activities focusing on current issues and technologies in consumer/home economics including activities for economically-depressed area outreach; and (3) identify and showcase innovative strategies utilized by local colleges to promote gender equity and to serve the special needs student population. The centerpiece of the project was a three-day retreat attended by 50 community college home economics coordinators and instructors representing 24 colleges. The retreat culminated in the development of individualized action plans. In addition, participants completed written evaluations and exit interviews. This project report includes a review of the anticipated and actual outcomes of the project; a list of major project activities; a brief project evaluation summary; and a list of recommendations. Appendixes, which comprise the bulk of the report, include retreat application materials; a participant's packet; daily newsletters; the retreat facilitator's training package; a copy of the "contract for action" completed by participants; participant evaluation forms and responses; copies of COMPENDIUM, the two-year college home economics newsletter; and the exemplary projects awards package.
