These proceedings begin with general information, including objectives and brief discussions of background papers and participants. The proceedings themselves are summarized. They cover the opening session, election of the chair, adoption of the agenda, and the presentation and discussion of the background paper that focused on setting up adult education structures to meet needs of society and individuals. The summary of the discussions addresses these topics: (1) transformation of the concept and objectives of adult education in view of new demands and needs; (2) new forms and methods of adult education; (3) target groups of adult education; (4) theoreticians and decision-makers in adult education; (5) adult education workers in the field of vocational training, further training, and retraining; (6) adult education workers in the fields of culture/arts, environment, hobbies, leisure, and the dissemination of knowledge; (7) workers responsible for political/civic, youth, trade union, and community education; (8) innovation and experiments in training of adult educators; (9) international cooperation; and (10) tasks of educational authorities and institutions, political parties, trade unions, employers' and professional associations, and religious and mass organizations. Recommendations are provided, followed by these appendices: agenda; list of background papers; list of participants; and the two opening addresses (by Ivan Vitanyi and Habib Mobarik).
