Reflections on the Future Development of Education. Educational Studies and Documents No. 49.
United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, Paris (France).
A number of documents completed as part of a study on the future development of education are complied in this document. This study was designed to explore the prospects for the development of education throughout the 1980s and 1990s--in light of general trends in education in the course of the 1970s, socio-economic evolution in the world, and foreseeable advances in science and technology--and to outline the priorities for international cooperation in this respect. Within the framework of this study, five regional symposia were held in 1980, in: Dakar, Senegal; Bangkok, Thailand; Beirut, Lebanon; Caracas, Venezuela; and Paris, France. Summaries of these symposia are reproduced in this document. A special International Panel on the Future Development of Education was set up to advise the Secretariat. The international panel met twice, first in 1980, and then in 1981, in order to identify significant trends in the development of education in the world, determine the factors likely to influence this development in the next two decades, and specify the essential themes calling for special study. The working document and final report from both meetings of the international panel also are included in this document. (DB)
